THE LAND AND PEASANT CULTURE

The land must be respected. Over the centuries, peasant culture has allowed man to enjoy the fruits of the earth. There is a knowledge of the hands that is superior to that of any other. Hands produce, know, enliven, always make the earth alive. The earth is mother and therefore must be respected and never abandoned. Here are some tips:

Soil Testing: Start by doing a soil test to understand the composition, pH and nutrient levels of your soil. This will help you determine which crops or plants will thrive and what modifications may be necessary.

Choose the right location: Select a suitable location for your grow. Consider factors such as sunlight, water availability and proximity to your home. Different plants have different needs for sunlight and water.

Plan and Design: Plan your growing area carefully. Decide what you want to grow and where. Consider crop rotation to prevent soil depletion and disease accumulation.

Prepare the ground: Clear the area of weeds, rocks and debris. Depending on your soil type and needs, you may need to till, amend with organic matter (such as compost), and level the soil.

Irrigation: Establish a reliable irrigation system based on the water needs of your crops. Drip irrigation or soaker hoses are efficient options for conserving water.

Planting: Follow the planting guidelines for the specific crops or plants you have chosen. Pay attention to spacing, depth, and timing (i.e., planting in the right season).

Mulch: Apply mulch around your plants to conserve moisture, suppress weeds and regulate soil temperatures. Organic mulches such as straw or wood chips can improve soil quality over time.

Fertilization: Use organic or slow-release fertilizers as needed based on soil test results and plant requirements. Avoid excessive fertilization, which can damage plants and seep into water systems.

Weed and pest management: Implement integrated pest management (IPM) strategies to control weeds and pests without excessive use of chemicals. Some options are hand pulling weeds, companion planting and introducing beneficial insects.

Maintenance: Monitor your growing area regularly for signs of stress, disease or pest infestations. Prune and thin plants as needed to encourage healthy growth.
